SITCOM: The Mix-up (faking it)

INT. COFFEEHOUSE – DAY

Martin is sitting at a table, finishing a phone call.

MARTIN

Could you tell her Martin called? Thanks.

He hangs up and starts checking for other messages.

WENDY

Hi. Are you Gerald?

MARTIN (still looking down)

No, I'm sorry, I 'm -

(looking up)

Whoa! Why yes. Yes, I am.

WENDY

It's so nice to finally meet you.

MARTIN

Yes, finally.

WENDY

I'm so eager to discuss your screenplay.

MARTIN

My - Oh, absolutely. My screenplay.

WENDY

You've been there, of course.

MARTIN

Oh I wouldn't be too sure.

WENDY

Why surely you'd remember?

MARTIN

I would?

WENDY

After what happened.

MARTIN

Oh. Yes. That.

WENDY

I was wondering about the scar.

MARTIN

The scar. Yes. Why? Did you want to see it?

WENDY

God, no!

MARTIN

Oh in that case -

WENDY

I can't believe you'd even ask that.

MARTIN

Sorry.

WENDY

Why you're not who I thought you were. at all, are you?

MARTIN

No, no, I'm sorry, I'm not.

WENDY

I'm sorry, Gerald, but I think it would be better if I left.

She turns and starts to leave, then stops and turns back.

I'm sorry. Maybe I'm being hasty, Gerald.

MARTIN

But I'm not -

WENDY

I just need some time to think. And then I'll call you.

MARTIN

But you don't have -

WENDY

Patience! It will only make things better the next time we meet.

Goodbye, Gerald.

She exits.

MARTIN

Goodbye. Whoever you are.
