HOSPITAL: The Cost (bending the rules)

INT. HOSPITAL BREAK ROOm – EVENING

Dr. Dolan

He's in pain. And it's only going to get worse.

Dr. Rich

Don't you think I know that?

Dr. Dolan

There must be something we can do.

Dr. Rich

With what money? He doesn't have insurance.

Dr. Dolan

What if it were life-threatening?

Dr. Rich

But it isn't.

Dr. Dolan

In his case, it might be.

Dr. Rich

What do you mean?

Dr. Dolan

I think he's at the end of his rope.

Dr. Rich

Don't do this to me.

Dr. Dolan

You're seen him. You've seen how desperate he is.

Dr. Rich

Yes.

Dr. Dolan

What if he gives up? What if he -

Dr. Rich

Stop.

Dr. Dolan

You know I'm right.

Dr. Rich

And you know what I'm up against. The hole this hospital's in.

Dr. Dolan

Yes. Yes, I do.

Dr. Rich

I should have been a banker.

Dr. Dolan

What? Why?

Dr. Rich

Because I became a doctor to save lives. But more and more in trying to do that, what matters isn't medicine. It's money.
