SECRET

Secret

People like Spencer. He's easy-going, smart. He always knows how to do things, too. He's just good at stuff.
Why he liked hanging out with me, I didn't get at all. I kept thinking he'd see. See what was wrong with me. My secret. Once he knew my secret, he wouldn't want to be my friend.
It became this Thing That Was About to Happen. This shoe about to drop. It got so I couldn't stand it. So finally I told him. Just took him aside and said, “There's something you need to know.” And I told him. I told him my secret.
“Oh that,” he said. “Yeah, I figured that out long ago.” But he could see I was surprised. “Why? Did you think that was a big deal?”
“Yeah... Kind of.”
He shook his head. “Funny, isn't it? What we worry about?”
And I realized it was. Funny as could be.
