THE OLD REGIME POLICE BLOTTER
The Old Regime Police Blotter is an attempt to compile and translate crimes and other matters of interest to the authorities under the Old Regime in France. It is very loosely modelled on the Newgate Calendar, an English collection of legal cases which has no real equivalent in France.
NOTE: The original source material here is in the public domain. My own translations however are not - please note that they are protected by copyright.

SUICIDE
RAPE
PROSTITUTION
The above groups of cases are now available in a book:

18th CENTURY RECIPES
These recipes, primarily French and primarily from the "long" 18th century, have been compiled (and, in most cases, translated) from a wide variety of sources. I have also appended some essays on larger subjects related to food.
MENUS, IN PART OR OTHERWISE
A meal for Marie-Antoinette
The menus here are all for dishes listed in the Entrée course (only) for a meal served to Marie-Antoinette. Since sixteen dishes were offered for this one course, modern cooks should be able to find more than enough dishes here for one or more "royal" meals.
NOTE: Where possible I have provided the menu for the exact meal listed; otherwise, I have provided the closest documented equivalent.
A meal for 10-12 guests
This is one of several model meals provided in an 18th century French cookbook. The same book does not provide recipes for all the dishes listed, so I have compiled and translated these from a number of sources.
Recipes associated with this Model Meal have been collected in one book, now joined by a second, vegetarian, volume:

LE MAGASIN PITTORESQUE
The Magasin Pittoresque began publication in 1833 and continued until 1912. It was as eclectic a publication as can be imagined, and richly illustrated (with woodcuts). The entries here are to mini-indexes of each issue which highlight the entries relevant to the "long" eighteenth century. A few "off-topic" entries are listed as well. To view the articles themselves (which are in French), visit the French National Library's Gallica site, find the volume listed and go to the page indicated.
