Chez Jim:

The 1996 Cannes Film Festival

The Little Carlton (le Petit Carlton)

Two local bars, the Little Carlton [SINCE CLOSED] and the Little Majestic, provide a funky counterpoint to the Majestic and Carlton hotels, which host much of the Festival's more up-scale activity.
Young directors and producers frequent these, but many other people drop by, dressed in evening clothes, to check out the scene.
One person said that the Little Carlton was more popular with the Germans and the Dutch, the Little Majestic with the Americans and the English. They're close enough, though, that many people wander between the two.
The Little Carlton, by the way, has a good and not very expensive dinner menu. The Little Majestic, on the other hand, serves until all hours.
